Jihoceská Zlatá Niva PGI

Origin: Czech Republic
Jihoceská Zlatá Niva PGI

Jihoceská Zlatá Niva PGI is a marbled cheese from the South Bohemia region of Czechia. It is made from processed cow’s milk. It is wheel shaped with a rind that is marked by washing or by rubbing, with a cream to light brown coloured surface.  The cheese itself varies in colour from cream white to butter, with a green-bluish marbling and visible cross signs. The texture is pasty.

The flavour of the cheese is salty, spicy and aromatic with a sharpness typical of Penicillium roqueforti. Jihoceská Zlatá Niva PGI can be eaten with meat and bread or as an ingredient in pasta dishes with chicken, stuffed vegetables (especially potates) and aubergine and tomato rolls. It can also be fried.

Jihoceská Zlatá Niva PGI is produced from milk that comes from cows farmed in pastures in the protected areas of Novohradské Hory, Blanský les and Sumava, located in one of the most unpolluted regions of the Czech Republic. The cow’s diet gives the milk used in the cheese a very characteristic taste.
