Kiełbasa

Origin: Poland
Kiełbasa

Kiełbasa is a type of meat sausage from Poland, which is typically made from pork and lightly smoked. A staple of Polish cuisine, Kiełbasa comes in different varieties and colours, and can be flavoured with salt, pepper, herbs, and spices like ginger, juniper, or marjoram.

A highly flavourful sausage, kielbasa can be boiled, baked, or grilled. It can be eaten as a breakfast sausage or added to dishes such as stews, soups, or served with potatoes or beans and rice. It is also very popular served cold on a platter as an appetiser, or as a snack to accompany beer or vodka.

Kiełbasa literally means ‘sausage’ in Polish and refers to the wide array of different kinds you can find. While it is most commonly smoked and pork-based, kiełbasa also comes fresh and cured, and is sometimes made from ground veal, lamb, beef, or chicken.
