Jambon d’Ardenne PGI

Origin: Belgium
Jambon d’Ardenne PGI

Jambon d’Ardenne PGI is a dry ham which takes its name from the Ardenne region of Belgium. The ham is deep brownish pink in colour and has a salty and spicy taste.

Jambon d’Ardenne PGI is excellent eaten on its own and can also be used in the preparation of various dishes, such as pasta or with vegetables. Cut into thin slices, it makes a tasty snack served with bread, on a charcuterie platter, or as a starter with melon. It can also be cut into thicker slices and served as a main course with vegetables.

The natural environment of the Ardennes is key to the ham’s taste: the distinctive microclimate of the forested highland in the region, and the maturing and drying processes of the ham contribute to its flavoursome character. Records from the beginning of the 19th Century reveal that ham was served to travellers all over the Ardennes and that later it came to be a treat associated with local festivities.
