Cerise des coteaux du Ventoux PGI
Origin: France

Cerise des coteaux du Ventoux PGI are handpicked cherries from the foothills of the Mont Ventoux Mountain in southern France. The cherries are deep red in colour and are quite large in size – at least 24mm.
The Mediterranean climate of the region with high levels of sunshine contribute to the sweet as well as slightly tart flavour of the cherry. Delicious eaten fresh, they can also be used in tarts (cherry clafoutis), pies, made into jam or ice cream, or used in smoothies.
The tradition of cherry cultivation in this region dates back as far back as the 17th century. Cherries were imported to Rome from the Black Sea around 2000 years ago and became established in France towards the end of the Middle Ages.
