Apples

Poland’s association with apples dates back to the 12th Century when Cistercian monks created the first orchards. Since then, Poland has become the largest apple producing country in Europe, thanks to the region's particularly favourable climatic conditions. Crunchy apples of all colours from deep red through to green are produced, with distinctive flavours and aromas.
The red Royal Gala variety is small or medium in size, with crispy, creamy yellow flesh. Red Delicious is a medium-sized apple, with a tall conical shape, creamy white flesh and a mild hint of melon flavour. The Red Jonaprince is deep red in colour, with a firm, cream-green pulp and is more sour sweet. And there are many, many more varieties to discover.
The special sweetness of Polish apples is tied to the legend of the Jabłonki – the ‘apple sisters’. These three heavenly creatures, known for their abundance of generosity, intelligence and beauty, would kiss the apples grown in their orchard and imbue the fruit with the power of eternal youth.
